<i>Like</i>in Korean English speech

This article focuses on the use of like by Korean speakers English. South Korea is a fascinating context for world Englishes studies: English generally learned as foreign language, but deep political and historical ties facilitate high visibility prominent status language in society. In this study, with particular attention to discourse-pragmatic aspects are investigated help Spoken Corpus (SPOKE). Like frequency item SPOKE clearly forms part repertoire across its functional range. Even though usage discourse marker particle influenced having spent time abroad (self-reported) proficiency, it nearly all surveyed speakers. Quotative has also found place repertoire, albeit lesser degree.
